Korean actor and singer Lee Joon felt the magnitude 8.1 earthquake that hit southern Mexico before midnight Thursday and said he’s safe.
Lee Joon flew to Mexico City on September 6 for a fan meeting scheduled on Sept. 8 at Sala Corona.
The temblor, which struck off Mexico’s southern coast, was felt as far as Mexico City, triggering the city’s earthquake alarm and thousands of people evacuating to safety including Lee Joon.
In an Instagram post, he wrote, “I am writing because there are many people who are worried. The staff and I felt the earthquake, everyone was evacuated and we are now safe. The magnitude 8.9 is a bit scary but the hotel staff protected us well and we’re now okay. Please pray for everyone in Mexico to be safe.”
During the event, Lee Joon was quoted as saying that he regrets about the current situation in Mexico because of the earthquake and said that he finally decided to hold the fan meeting because of the promise he made to fans, according to MBLAQ fans in Mexico.
Lee Joon debuted as a member of boy band MBLAQ in 2009 but left the group in 2014 to pursue his acting career.
