400 S'pore fans will be in One Direction's live broadcast

Singapore fans of UK boy band One Direction will get their spot of fame come Saturday, better known to Directioners as 1D Day.

More than 400 fans turned up on Sunday at Gardens by the Bay for the 1D carnival - hosted by Hot FM91.3 DJs Boy Thunder and Adam Piperdy - to film a choreographed routine for the quintet's hit single Best Song Ever, which will be viewed by the boys themselves and featured during the seven-hour live broadcast of 1D Day.

Those who pre-ordered One Direction's new album, Midnight Memories, were given a wrist tag and were able to enjoy face-painting, airbrush tattoos, manicures, candy floss and other activities.

Aashna Dikshit, 13, told The New Paper: "I didn't mind practising five times a day because I love One Direction so much.

"(In their songs), they say things that no other boy would ever say to us."

Aashna, who said she had been bullied by peers at an international school here during her elementary education when they made fun of her last name, claimed that the group - comprising Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, aged between 19 and 21 - "saved her life".

The United World College student said: "When Harry sings his part in Little Things, it's like he went into my soul and described me.
